  • What makes Blades Cottage a good choice for a short break in the Yorkshire Dales?

    Blades Cottage is a luxury cottage with character, comfort, and a quiet setting near Hawes. It’s a restored 1866 stone cottage with a summerhouse, plus a Visit England 4 stars and Gold award. You also get breath-taking views across the Yorkshire Dales countryside.

  • Is Blades Cottage a good base for walking, fishing, and birdwatching?

    Yes, it’s ideal for that. You can head out into the Yorkshire Dales for a day on the hills, by the water, or spotting wildlife, then come back to a peaceful cottage at the end of it. It suits guests who want easy access to the outdoors and a calm place to rest.

  • Who usually stays at Blades Cottage?

    Couples, families, and small groups all enjoy staying here. The cottage works well for a quiet escape, a special holiday, or a relaxed break with plenty of countryside around you. If you want comfort, privacy, and a beautiful Dales setting, Blades Cottage is a lovely choice.

  • When can I arrive and when do I have to leave the cottage?

    We ask all guests staying at the cottage not to arrive before 16.00pm and leave before 10.00am. This gives the cleaner plenty of time for professional cleaning and turnaround before the next guests arrive at the cottage. There is plenty parking and toilet facilities in the town of Hawes if you are wanting to enjoy another day in the Yorkshire Dales.

  • Where is the local supermarket?

    There is small convenience store in Hawes which has a good selection of everyday groceries and has a delicatessen with a selection of meats, cheeses and breads. There is a large Coop in Kirkby Stephen (approx 9 miles).

  • Where can I get fuel for my car?

    There is a 24hr self service fuel station in the local town of Hawes. There is also a fuel station in Nateby and Kirkby Stephens. For electric vehicles there is a recharging point in the main car park at the Hawes Countryside Museum.

  • Where can I get more logs and kindling?

    As part of the welcome pack Blades Cottage will supply logs and kindling for at least few nights. If extra is required there are many shops in the town of Hawes which sell nets of logs and kindling for people staying in holiday cottages.
